coco500 report

China | May 5, 2006 05:18 PM

I was suprisingly underwhelmed by my lunch at Coco500 this afternoon. Cool, I would say, cold service from the time we arrived didn't help anything. I'm fairly young, which can hurt, but this was nothing like what I've recieved at other comparable restaurants in the city. My prawn salad was overly creamy and one dimensional. The grilled prawn salads at Park Chow are far far better. My lunch date's duck confit was alright, but not spectacular. Once again sort of flat tasting. We had the crisp for dessert. The straberries and rhubarb were nothing special and the crisp was neither crisp, nor interesting. The marscapone gelato was its saving grace. I don't like to complain but with all of the chowhound raves I was expecting something more exciting. And the ice cold service really needs to go. I would head elsewhere next time.
