Robinhood Free Meeting House Restaurant!
Georgetown Maine
I just went to an astounding gem of a restaurant tucked in a quiet spot in Georgetown Maine. It is about 5 1/2 miles down the peninsula right after going over the Bath Bridge toward Woolwich (northbound on Rte 1). It is only a 45 min drive from Portland.
IMHO this is as good as any 5 star rated restaurant, I am hard to please - but incredibly happy when I find food that is = to or better than what I can cook. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed in making the effort to dine here. THe staff and chef (Troy Mains) welcomed us. We had no reservations having intended to eat lobster on the dock at five islands only to find it closed for the evening (it was blustery and cold) and were dressed for beachcombing - - we were made to feel very comfortable. The food, starting with excellent flaky biscuits and herb butter is all so perfect and delicious that each course tops the last. My sweet potato gnocchi in a maple butter thyme sauce were light and not too sweet. My main course was halibut with fennel sauce. It was perfectly cooked, the sauce complementing but not overpowering. My dining companion had a beautiful salad with a special bleu cheese and walnuts. A lovely pink grapefruit ice was presented before our dinners. My friend had crab cakes that were excellent- mostly crab, accompanied by a spicy asian type sauce and a salsa. My dessert (ordered ahead), was a warm chocolate mousse cake with an orange ice cream. Sooo good. Dark bitter chocolate cake with a creamy warm center, 3 huge raspberries in small pools of dark chocolate and then to the side this amazing aromatic orange ice cream sitting on a bed of finely chopped nuts. What a wonderful meal we had! Their website is: http://www.robinhood-meetinghouse.com/
