A friend of mine, a part-time food critic from abroad, is about to arrive to Manhattan and asked me to select an excellent restaurant for dinner.
I suggested Jean George seasonal tasting menu, based on Newsjoke recommendation (I like Newsjokes palate Thanks Newsjoke). My friend was thrilled about the recommendation but other friends that join us (total 10) are not in a mood to spend about $150 per person and asked me to find a good restaurant in the range of $50.
Balthazar might have been a good solution but we ate there already. We also did together several cheap ethnic explorations (Chinese, Thai, Indian, Jewish Delis, Tomoe Sushi) as well as upscale like Babbo, and Bouley Bakery. My friend prefers this time an upscale food.
I need a restaurant that is as close as it gets to Jean George for $50 per person (71 Clinton Fresh Food type of a place). Can I make it Manhattan OR do I have to look to the outer boroughs?
Thanks for help.
