I've loved Christy's ever since I had enough money to dine there, and took my honey there for a birthday dinner this past Friday. I just love this place! Casual yet elegant rooms, friendly and professional service (disclosure: our server is a very close friend of ours), exemplary wine list, sublime Italian food. And it has stayed consistently good for years. One of the very best choices in Long Beach.
Wine list: As usual, comprehensive. We ordered a bottle of Stag's Leap 2000 cabernet. One of my favorate vintages. Typical big Napa valley cab-- which isn't a bad thing IMHO.
Appetizers: We ordered calamari fritti. I am decidedly NOT a big fan of fried squid (usually comes rubbery and flavorless), but Christy's did them right. Tender rings of squid with a light, tasty batter, served with a simple, flavorful marinara sauce. Delicious! And lots of it.
Dinner: Pollo "florentyno" (sic) and monkfish (special off-menu item). Although every Italian joint offers chicken breast stuffed with spinach, only Christy's will evoke "oh my god" with the first bite. Just wonderful, as were the garlic mashed potatoes. And the monkfish, served with parmesan risotto, was just as perfect. Tender, moist, beautifully presented.
Dessert: Chocolate bread pudding. Another "oh my god" moment. Indescribably delicious.
Dinner came in at a reasonable $173, not including tip (and I left a 21% tip-- the service was that good). And afterward, we retired to the cigar lounge so I could light up a Cohiba (Cuban cigar bought in Miami). A perfect end to a perfect meal.
