Restaurants & Bars

some chowing

Went to the Linwood in the Fenway (after seeing Training Day which was pretty good) to grab a burger from their relatively new sandwich menu. Not great, the fries were soggy and I had to ask for the burger to go back on the grill cuz it was much less than medium. But it came back with a thick coat of charring. My friend enjoyed the steak tips tho. I still like the place and the choc. peanut butter pie helped lift the experience.

Some visitors wanted seafood so we went to McCormick & Schmicks in the Park Plaza Hotel which I really like. Comfortable room, nice server, tons of different fish. Two of us wanted to try something called tripletail but they'd run out so I ended up with snapper w/ miso butter sauce and that was good. Everyone seemed happy with their dishes. They have a great hand with the fryolator, the fried calamari were great (as are their oysters). Desserts were good, prices are $14-24. I still need to try that bargain and a half happy hour menu for $1.95 for lots of good things.

Had the first of a few b-day dinners at Fava in Needham. The dining room has an old house feel. It was more expensive than I thought Needham dining would be, upper 20's mostly. I had lobster shepherd's pie which was pretty good, good amount of lobster. My friend had some crusted halibut with a kinda tasteless risotto cake. The salad w/ apple and blue cheese was very good and we split a warm choc. cake with mocha ice cream and that was nice too. Seemed like a decent choice of wines by the glass. Glad I finally got to try it.
