Chowhound Challenge 2: Fun with Poverty in the Burbs

poor impoverished chowmutt | Mar 10, 2006 11:25 PM

The other day a challenge was set out by someone tired of the high end chic places, which was encouraging to hear... until I saw the requested price at under $100 for 2...
Never having been able to come close to that, I am wondering if there are many here that would even have the interest in taking the 2nd Challenge of finding fun for the fund-impaired...

Requirements:

Delicious food with satisfying portions

Fun and comfortable atmosphere---Unique and/or authentic

Bang for the buck

Not located in Boston or Cambridge (that's a whole different but easier challenge)

Under 30 buckaroos per couple

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines please!

My beginning list of suggestions:
Mexico Lindo/Melrose-Excellent food and variety, fun esp.on Wed nites for Mariachi band

Sushi Island/Wakefield- On Fri and Sat for jazz and dinner. May go over $30 but exception made for the music

Taquera Mexico/Waltham for food, atmosphere, fruitshakes and jukebox

Friendly Toast/Portsmouth N.H. Open 24 hours-nothing funkier or more delicious for breakfast or lunch

Christophers/Reading- cozy breakfast nook with menu variety such as eggs in potato skins, pecan banana pancakes
