The best chowders in Maine

Wells, Maine (Rte 1) - The Maine Diner always has long lines waiting outside, regardless of the hour. The food is down-home cooking and the staff is extra nice and quick. One of their best items is their clam chowder, but even better (my choice over my husband's) is their seafood chowder. It is full of clams, muscles, shrimp and scallops. The broth is milky and light. We eat chowders everywhere in New England and this is one of the best. Their fried clams are a huge portion and really delicious - no heavy fried flavor.
