September 6 is the start of the week-long semi-annual draft horse sale at the Waverly Sale Barn. The sale is the biggest event of its kind in the country and is where Budweiser, Disney and lots of Amish farmers go to by the big Clydesdales and Percherons.
But I dream about the Waverly Sale Barn because of the food, some of the best unassuming chow I've ever eaten. The star on the menu is homemade chicken and noodles served on real mashed potatoes. Everything served in the sale barn cafe is made from scratch. If you are within striking distance of Waverly, I'd encourage a visit. And if you want to make a day of it, try Martin's Brandenburg, a great German restaurant, for evening fare.
Maybe I'll see you there.
