Ok so it is hubby's birthday tomorrow, and I always make him a cake from scratch. Never the same recipe, not that I would remember anyways (note to self remember recipe from year to year)
But anyways it is usually an ice cream cake that can sort of hide the cake with all the frosting and ice cream, but this year I'm putting the ice cream on the side so I can use my new ice cream maker. Ok the point to all this is he is as non foodie as you can get he loves store bought cake and REALLY loves the frosting of a can (which is what I always use just for his birthday)
This year though our toddler will be eating cake for the first time so I want to go all homemade. I waited till the last minute to look for recipes to make tonight, and am realizing all the good rated recipes may be too rich for him. He hates mousse, rich chocolate cakes etc. Anyone got a basic but yummy cake recipe, and maybe a frosting recipe that tastes like it came from a can but without all the extra crap. (may just use whipped cream in the worst case) Thanks and sorry for the long post!
