During my undergraduate years at UC Irvine, my friends and I used to go to a mom and pop Chinese take out place at the intersection of Jamboree and Barranca (behind the Arby's). Along with their usual steam tray offerings of usual Chinese takout, they had a separate menu for those in the know. That place is history now.
But I am searching for a particular dish they served. It was a simple dish of steamed rice topped with minced pork cooked in soy sauce (with a hard boiled egg too as I recall), and on the side was two glistening and savory red Chinese sausages. It was delicious comfort food.
Does anyone know what this is called and any place that serves this? Hopefully it wasn't just a concoction dreamed up by the owners, which would mean it is now forever lost...it was just too good.
