China Camp for Picnicking

Melanie Wong | Jun 10, 2006 07:52 PM

As the weather warms up, just wanted to mention that China Camp outside San Rafael is one of the loveliest venues for a picnic I've ever seen. This was a graduation celebration. We made hot dogs and hamburgers using the on-site grills. The only downside was the shortage of parking.

Before heading home, I followed the signs to the docks where the Chinese shrimpers once plied their trade and took a look around the small museum. I meant to check out the food stand (shown below), but it turned the sign over to "closed" by the time I got back. The posted special of the day was clam chowder. Has anyone tried it?
