Stopped by the new Chicken Tortilla place next to Levi's Port Cafe near the Navy Yard. They just opened a few weeks ago. The menu is split between charbroiled/rotisserie chicken and steak, served in burritos, tortillas, sandwiches, and salads. Didn't try the chicken, but the beef burrito is pretty good. About the same size as Chipotle/Burrito Brothers, not as good as the former but much better than the latter. I've found that most burrito places in DC use bottom round or chuck in their steak burritos. I've never liked them because the meat tends to be either stringy, or overcooked and tough. Chicken Tortilla seems to be using either flank steak or top round, cooked medium rare, for a more roast-beefy flavor. $6 for over a pound of beef, rice, beans and the standard toppings toppings. Very filling.
Unfortunately, their rice is seasoned only with cilantro and not lime. I've found the citrus offers a nice counterpoint to the saltiness of the other ingredients, but that may not be an issue with other eaters. The place seems to do a brisk lunch business; it was crowded with Navy/Marines and contractors. There are about a half dozen two-seat tables inside a narrow corridor for indoor dining, but those get taken up rather early.
If you're in the neighborhood and don't feel like soul food at Levi's, mouth-shredding toastwiches at Quiznos, or burgers at Five Guys near the Metro, Chicken Tortilla offers a nice alternative.
