Friday night we happened to be driving by, so stopped for dinner at the new Chichen Itza location. The decor is warm and inviting and the food was simply fantastic.
Lovely Companion had squid cooked in its own ink, which was refreshingly tasty. Her lips became goth-black, which was endearing. She also had the baby back ribs with pumpkin seed mole, which was simply unbelievably tasty. I wanted to drink it.
I enjoyed the Crema de Chaya, a green leafy vegetable cream soup, which had a fantastic color and great flavor. I licked the bowl (in my mind). I also enjoyed the veggie vaporcito, a delicate tamale with great sauce and the citrus jicama salad was light and tasty.
For dessert, a strangely dense-but-light flan was out of the this world.
The flavors are subtle and nuanced, not something everyone associates or appreciates about fine Mexican food. So, have your tasting parts calibrated properly when you go.
I love this place!
PS. Valet parking is complimentary!
PPS. Great live music--a guitar strumming singer added to the mellow mood.
