chicago trip

We have just completed our Chicago trip and I wanted to give my report. First night we went to Tiffin on Devon. Excellent Indian food. Tandoori chicken by far the biggest portions I have had. Tandoori fish very interesting flavor. One complaint: they burned the nan. Lunch at the Grand Luxe Cafe on Michigan Ave. It is an offshoot of the Cheesecake Factory. One of the largest restaurants I have been to. Good food but amazing beignets for dessert. Next night we went to Rosebud Steakhouse on E. Walton. Crowded noisy big city scene which we loved. Excellent mussel appetizer. Then disaster struck. My wife and I both ordered Alaskan halibut. Yes I know it is a steakhouse. They brutalized the fish. It had no resemblence to the species we have had on the West Coast. The steaks other people were having looked great. Our final night we went to MK in River North. We had a wonderful experience there. Beautiful space, competent service, and divine food. I had the degustation menu and my wife had the salmon as an entree. Again the only complaint was the bread which was average. A restaurant like MK should have every detail down. Great wine list. Nice to see Alsatians and Austrian wines on the list. Last day we had breakfast at Mrs. Park's Tavern. Overpriced. Coffee was undrinkable. Not enough time to explore your great city. Could not get to the Berghoff or to Walker Brothers which were two of my favorites from many years ago. Have to save them for our next visit.
