I checked out both of these places today... both excellent. The deep-dish by the slice at Old Chicago Pizza is definitely up there with the best in the city (great crispy crust), and while I have not had the luxury of sampling some of New England's great donut shops, Dat Donuts is definitely the best donut I have tasted in the Midwest. So a few questions remain after my little trip down Cottage Grove:
Is Old Chicago Pizza the best pizza by the slice on the South Side? If not, where else should I be going?
How's the Leon's Bar-B-Q sitting next to Dat Donuts? When I go there, what should I order? (Or is there a better Bar-B-Q on the South Side?)
*Old Chicago Pizza is on E 79th St less than a block west of Cottage Grove, and Dat Donuts is in the Leon's Bar-B-Q building at 83rd and Cottage Grove.
