As a rank out-of-towner, please allow me to recommend:

Hillis & Co. has a location in Haymarket District downtown. It's a fancy goods store with some tables, with a very good selection of pastries, savories (quiche, at least the day we went) and salads. Regular coffee is served (no espresso beverages).

Runza is a locally-based fast food chain (and the website shows locations in Colorado, Iowa and Kansas), and their signature dish (the Runza) is a loose-meat sandwich (like Maid-Rite's, across the border in Iowa) baked in a roll.

The farmers market features samples of grilled meat (including game), a variety of baked goods, and a wickedly-addicting kettle corn, seasoned just perceptably with a sweet and salty flavoring.
