My co-worker alerted me that the Cherry Man (I'm sure that's not his real name) is back at 3rd and Montgomery in the Financial District, SF.
Last year, he had some amazing Bing cherries. Today, he had those yellow/pink cherries. I always call them Rainiers, but I've heard people call them rainbow cherries too.
Does anyone know this guy's schedule, or what farm he's from? He was there this time last year, but was very vague about which days of the week he's there. When he is there, it's best to catch him around 2:30 as he's only there until he runs out. I suspect he might be selling without a license, and might also disappear sometimes because of that.
As for quality, I can say that I sampled some Bing and Rainiers today at the Ferry Building Farmers' Market and was unimpressed. The cherries were small and not very sweet. Not sour, but not sweet either. My co-worker's bag of cherries were mostly much larger fruits, and the one I tasted was much sweeter than the coupld I tasted at the Farmer's Market.
If anyone catches sight of the Cherry Man in the next few days, please post! And try to pin him down about his strange schedule!
