I just wanted to put in a good word for the Chef's Touch in Solvang, California. I think I read about it on this website which prompted us to try it for lunch this past Saturday. Very cute cafe with seating inside and out. They have cooking classes and sell cookbooks and other cooking tools. They have a blackboard menu with specials and also their regular menu. You order at the counter and then take a seat and the waitress brings you your food. You can pick your beverages of choice out of the cold case (including wine and beer) and they also have ice tea on tap.
I ordered the tuna/smoked mozzarella pannini sandwich. It was very, very tasty. Served with a couple of green olives, a garlic dill pickle slice and side salad for $9.95. I could not finish the sandwich. My husband had the reuben which was actually pastrami on rye with sauerkraut served pannini style with the same sides. He said it was very good. I think his was about $8.95. He had a German beer to go with that.
We were one of two customers there at that time of day which was early--about 11:15 a.m. The waitress brought us a slice of apple tart for dessert for free. She was really great. She also brought us their menu for Sunday breakfast in case we wanted to come back the next day. The menu looked really good but I can't remember anything that was on it except huevos rancheros. They only serve breakfast on Sunday. Lunch is served 11-4 and then dinner 4-9.
Thanks to whoever recommended this restaurant. Its a gem in the middle of Solvang.
