i went to casanis (on broome and ludlow) last night. my advice: don't go.
i tried my best to give them the benefit of the doubt given their recent opening date. that said:
decor was standard, generic-issue french bistro (circa new york 1999), though a bit larger and less cozy than average. the place had a DJ BOOTH at the back. not a good sign for chowhounds.
menu was standard. food was subpar. escargots were overcooked and rubbery. duck was served nearly raw. when sent back to cook to medium rare, the meat quality was poor and didn't have a lot of flavor. french onion soup had very little flavor. wines seemed overpriced - had a $31 bottle of malbec that, while cheap, tasted like a $8 bottle at retail.
maybe they'll figure things out in the next few weeks, but not a good sign.
