Casa Del Dolce on Rhawn

CDD is a small Italian bakery located on Rhawn in the NE. I've driven by it for years. Surprisingly, they were open yesterday so I stopped in for a few last minute Easter items: ricotta cheese cake, sfogliatelle, hot cross buns, and eclairs. The ricotta cheese cake was firm, moist yet dry, and not too sweet. I'm not an expert on these but I thought it was very good and an Italian friend also proclaimed it excellent. I am a sfogliatelle afficionado, however, and theirs was the best I've tried anywhere. The filling was very good but the pastry shell was cripy crunchy perfect -- better than Termini, Isgros or Eagle bakeries. The hot cross buns were OK. The only disappointment was the eclair, which had a hard shell chocolate coating without much flavor and an indifferent pastry and filling.

They also carry lots of handmade pastas, sauces and prepared dishes in the freezer that looked worth trying so if you're in the area, stop by.
