Capitol Hill Tandoor and Grill

I ordered take out from Capitol Hill Tandoor and Grill Friday night and it was very disappointing. I'd have to rate it some of the worst restaurant Indian food I've ever had. Perhaps the first warning sign is written on their menu: Pakistani and Indian Cuisine with American Accents. How about Pakistani and Indian Cuisine that's Pakistani and Indian.

ok maybe it was an off night, but in my experience Indian works pretty well as take out. Also the restaurant was only half full, and not very busy, so they certainly didn't have to rush the order.

Positives: The restaurant is a nice space, exposed brick and hard wood floors. The samosas were good, 3 small ones for $2.95. And the price is right with veggie dishes around $9 and meat dishes $12. However, Friday's offerings were just not very good.

We ordered the Chicken Tikka Makhni, which when done right is a marriage of the smoky flavors of the tandoor and a rich creamy tomato sauce. Their version was just watery with little flavor. We also ordered the Baingan Bhurta, an eggplant dish, which was better with the flavor but was really oily.

I'd still like to try their buffet, which looked pretty comprehensive.

Is it fair to slam a restaurant on just one visit, probably not, but the first impression from Capitol Hill and Tandoor Grill was not a good one.
