Canoe Valentine's Dinner

fiasco | Feb 14, 2005 10:52 AM

Against my better judgement I went to Canoe for Valentines menu this past Saturday as my fiancee has never been and really wanted to try it. I have been to Canoe a number of times and have never been blown away nor have I been upset by the meal. Valentines' menu was not exception if anything I was a little disappointed. The amuse bouche was a breaded oyster that was nice. For appetizer I had fois gras that was ok but I prefer pan seared. Then I had a lobster bisque that was good. Followed by blood orange sorbet and for my main course I had beef tenderloin. The beef was excellent but overcooked as I asked for rare. For dessert we had a chocolate dip for 2 that was ok and dark chocolate ganache. Truthfully the meal was adequate but the dark chocolate ganache got such a positive reaction from the fiancee that it truly saved the dinner. Additionally, the service we had was excellent as was the Cedar Creek Pinot Noir we ordered.
