Calm Spot (W. 50s) For Late-Night Drinks w/Foreign Strangers

A strange request, perhaps, but my wife and I will be meeting the parents of an exchange student we hosted a year ago from Saragoza, Spain, when the couple visit New York City next week for the first time. They'll be staying at a hotel in the West 50s and we were hoping to get together with them around 10-ish, after my wife and I finish dinner at a downtown spot (The Tasting Room, if you must know!). I don't want to put our stranger-friends out by making them walk too far from their hotel so some nice place that serves wine or cocktails past 10 PM near Carnegie Hall would be great (a tapas bar is probably too much to hope for!). The bar at the Red Eye can be crazy, as can the scene at Rue 57. Any suggestions for an calm, "adult" scene, would be MOST appreciated.
