went to cafe talesai the other night and would offer two words of advice if you like spicy thai food: skip it.
We ordered Tom Yum - extra spicy. It came - not in the flaming caldron - but in a bowl with dried chile pepppers floating on top. Yuck. Thai food is spicy b/c of fresh thai chiles - not dried chile peppers! It really ruins the flavor of food.
We got the masman curry and chicken with basil and garlic - both similarly doused in chile peppers to add heat. The actual flavor of both of these dishes was ok (just ok) - but pouring all that chile pepper on top really detracted from the flavor. That's a fairly elementary principle - too bad they didn't know.
Topping it off were the $3 thai iced teas and having to pay $1 each for 1/2 cup scoop of rice. Total bill was $54 which is crazy for a thai restaurant. I'll be back to Pam's place and have yet to try Tuk Tuk - so there is still some hope for finding thai on the westside - but very little. Such is life.
