Cafe Mexicano in Park Slope - "you said Tamales"

Decided to break my morning paper-coffee-subway routine with a stop in at Cafe Mexicano on 4th and Union. Nice young guy behind the counter playing weird house musing and making steamed milk for the coffee, and a huge industrial soup bowl type doohickey filled with tamales right on the counter. Three types: chicken mole, salsa, black beans and cheese. I had the black bean tamale, and while I'm certainly no tamale expert, it was really good. Just as good as the best tamales I've had at Lopez bakery on 5th ave, which over time seemed maddeningly inconsistent quality wise. Not too dry, very warm, and great corn flavor mixed with the beans. For a buck or so, you probably won't find a better morning snack....
