Our favorite "fancy lunch" spot has always been Cafe Louis -- the food and service were consistently superb, and it was elegant, centrally located, never too busy (people don't seem to realize there's a restaurant in this high-end clothing store), and parking is free (hard enough to park on Newbury Street, let alone for free).
Went back for the first time today under its new chef and was sorely disappointed. What used to be a large and interesting antipasto platter has turned into a stingy portion of basics (prosciutto, mozzarella, olves, sundried tomatoes, anchovies -- all excellent quality, but not very inspiring). The margherita pizza had no mozzarella but lots of sharp parm, and no fresh tomatoes but lots of indifferent tomato sauce. The prices were always high, but $19 for a prosciutto/mozz sandwich on foccaccia??? Come on, guys!
So sad!!! Anyone share my experience, or were they just having an off day?
