Butai for Opening Night-18th street east

Went to Butai for Opening Night. I was a fan of the old place that contained the decent sushi place with the weird, but loads of fun Karaoke place upstairs. I happeed to pass the window on my way home and saw 1/2 price on all food, beer and house sake. I thought I would try it but was very skeptical b/c this area of town is loaded with Asian Fusiion places. I figured i would stay and try some food and have a few drinks. I thought i would skip sushi/shashimi and teest them on some more obscure dishes.. To my surprise it was all delicious. I had the following ( no order specified).. Home Made Tofu, Grilled Fluke with chopped sweet potato, pork belly with scallion, beef daikon, grilled mackeral and okay, i had to try some raw fish ; salmon, spanish makeral and yellowfin toro shashimi... really great stuff... they still need to work out some service issues ..but the room was great. vibe and food very authentic... plenty of space to relax with a group of 8 or 2. plenty of sake and shochu to choose from... I will be back !
