After reading about Hal on Adelaide & Duncan myself and a co-worker decided to try it today at lunch. As we walked in the man behind the counter welcomed us to Hals and proceeded to tell us that they had the "Best Burger in Toronto".. this always makes me weary.. as the staff should be asking the customers if it is the best not telling you that it is...
We sat down and I ordered the Daily Trio and my co-worker had the Hal Burger.
I will cut to the chase.. we were both under-welmed. The trio was three "meatballs" on little store-bought mini pitas as buns??? I had a Pork, chicken & Lamb - 2oz each.. The only one with a topping was the lamb with potabello mushrooms. All three were flavourless and bland. No spices at all, and none of their many listed toppings on the chicken or pork. And this for $12! I sub'ed the fries for teh onion strings which were OK but nothing overly exceptional.
Co-worker said his burger was dry with no flavour and the letuce on top was wilted and browning on the edges. We had to ask for more ketchup (homemade but runny and flavourless) as the one little bowl was not enough to make all our burger moist and also be used on the fries.
Total bill with Lemonade & two small cokes was over $36!!!
Way NOT worth it...
