It's been years since I've been to Wollensky's Grill. And I'm never at Smith & Wollensky because New York has far better steakhouses. But today I met friends for lunch at the Grill and we had burgers. They were quite good; good enough for me to post this. They had a perfect amount of char on the outside and were perfectly pink in the middle. The bun did not disintegrate. A thick slice of perfectly ripe tomato (amazing how many places give thin, under-ripe tomatoes), a hunk of lettuce and red and white onions. Very satisfying. Around $14 and while we can debate ad nauseum whether Corner Bistro of wherever else offers a better value, I was happy to pay it and felt that I got my money's worth.
Now, if they could expand the wine list to something other than generic, overpriced plonk from California, then I would be really happy.
Oh, too much butter on the hash browns, but it was cooked nice and crispy.
