We just had Sunday lunch at the Bull Valley Inn at Port Costa--hadn't been there for at least 20 years! This place has gone through so many changes over the years, but they seem to be on an upswing again. You have to seek it out, but for our lunch at least, it was worth it. Since it is winter they are only serving weekend lunch in the bar from a brief "bar bites" sort of menu, but with that food as a teaser, another visit for dinner is definitely on our agenda. To go with some very tasty Bloody Marys we ordered a thick slab of excellent housemade country pate and crackers. It could have been a meal in itself. Followed by what had to be the best steak sandwich I've ever eaten (extremely tender NY steak with grilled onions), accompanied by a definitely better than standard version of mixed baby greens salad with chunks of bleu cheese. The SO had a large serving of cajun grilled shrimp after which he practically licked the plate. They also provided half a loaf of homemade bread. That was so good I was surprised they didn't use it for the steak sandwich instead of an ordinary french roll. But then the steak was so tasty, I'm not really complaining. All in all ,a great meal that has convinced us to visit again and try dinner.
