I know this question gets asked fairly regularly, but will ask again as I am fairly stumped: I need a place for six people to have an early dinner Saturday night, within no more than a few blocks of 3rd and Mission, for a bit of celebration, and would like to keep costs fairly low...I've all but eliminated LuLu and Azie as being too expensive, and LuLu as possibly too loud. however, I still have one question about LuLu: I know food is served family style, but haven't been in years: so can someone tell me how many people the pizzas and rotisserie items serve (to get a better idea of real costs?).
Timing will also be a factor: two of the party are leaving to go to a function at Moscone Center at eight, so we want to be able to complete dinner within two hours (price aside, that alone would eliminate Roy's in my book: last time I hosted a party the upstairs room was quiet but service took FOREVER)...
This is a going away dinner with her grandparents for my daughter who is heading to the middle east (Jordan) for ten months, so a place where we can all talk would be nice, preferably with some type of food she might miss while she is gone...
Only other idea I have come up with is Cha Am, and while I have never eaten there, I haven't heard very good things about the food. Are there alternatives?
If necessary, I could up the budget, but I am accompanying her to Jordan to help get her settled, and we'd like to save our pennies for the trip!
