Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory worth a visit

Stopped by the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory (Old Fulton St. right by the River Cafe) to get some ice cream to eat after our takeout pizza from Grimaldi's. Their ice cream is very yummy - intensely flavored and superlatively rich. It's an all cream, no eggs formula - which makes it VERY creamy (and not at all custardy which is a bit sad). We had Butter Pecan and Coffee (they only offer about 7 flavors - all fairly basic, no "Phish Food" here), and the butter pecan was liberally sprinkled with crunchy pecans and the coffee was very dark and not too sweet. Both very good.

It's a large simple room with the simplest of menus (7 ice creams, basic toppings and cappucino/espresso). It'll be a gorgeous spot to sit outside come summer - but I recommend that folks stop by before then - I've noticed that business at Grimaldi's is way down post 9/11 and I worry that opening an ice cream shop in autumn in the midst of a tourist downturn is not the best business plan!
