So everyone knows little italy in the Bronx, and they know some of the other ancient 'establishments' in this borough...but what about the unsung heroes that are slaving all day to sling the cheap eats....
My favorites are the following....on Randall Ave (Hunts Point) right around the corner from http://www.mogridder.com/..is a little hot dog stand (MON-FRI) that stands apart from all the other dirty water dogs in NYC. This guy stands outside of a wholesale mexican grocery store called Aborrotes Mexicanos) slinging hot dogs with a unique twist. The order here is a "hot dog con todo" with yields you a hot dog (cooked in a veggie broth) topped with a onions, chili, queso fresco, hot sauce, and a homemade cilantro spiked jalapeno relish.....for two bucks its unbeatable......I feel like a total slut when i am eating it but its so worth the feeling of self-worthlessness that you get after you eat it.
Also, there is Real Azteca http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/... , right across the Bruckner. A few mexican granmothers are making all types of mexican corn masas, sopes, and tortillas by hand....sit down space in the back.
