Two New Yorker's visiting NO for a few days of
eating. During last year's trip we were wowed
by dinner at Bayona and a lunch at Nola.
Last night we had dinner at Brigtsen's, and are
not sure why it is so highly rated, unless perhaps
it was an off night.
For apps we had the Shrimp Remoulade with deviled egg, corn relish and guacamole; and the gratin of
shrimp and oyster. Both were good with interesting
flavors. Entrees were the pan fried rabbit and the
duck with cornbread stuffing and honey pecan gravy.
These were perfectly edible, but in no way special.
Not saying that this was bad food, but simply that
it was good but undistinguished. No wow factor.
All of the praise that we have read here and in
guidebooks set our expectations pretty high - we were
thinking it would be a top-tier dining experience (and worth the long trip from the Quarter). Instead, it was merely acceptable.
Service was good but unobstrusive.
We are trying to decide about dinner tonight and
are choosing between Upperline and Stella. Both
have been recommended, but we are now a bit gun-shy
about choosing. Any suggestions?
