Brighton heroes on a budget

I have to make a heartfelt shout out to two of the most wonderful pubs in the world - The Hop Poles and The Cooper's Cask. Owned by the same people they are holding a torch for independance as the rest of central Brighton is swallowed by hideous soulless trendy chains. Both of these pubs are not afraid of being up-to-date in decor or music, but it is never at the expense of the community spirit which has always set our little seaside town apart. And the food - what can I say? Where else can you get a fresh swordfish steak with freshly made pepper sauce plus veg and salad for £4.50? They have a huge menu which changes daily; every dish is an enormous portion and costs under a fiver. Since I discovered them I am there as often as my limited income allows. If you are round these parts I urge you to support them and pop in for lunch... Simon - sorry I didn't mention this before you had your weekend down here, but I do have a brain like a colander sometimes. How was your little jaunt?
