Went to the Bandera at Barrington and Wilshire last night, for maybe the 50th time since they opened. I had already decided to order to ribs and fries. The waiter looks at me and says, "We don't server fries anymore." My reply was, "You are kidding, right?" Nope. The manager, who I asked to come over to the table and explain the inexplicable, said that they have been getting "So many requests for healthier choices, and I needed to use the burner for cooking the fries to cook the spinach" or some such idiotic reason. I admit I was not very tactful when I told her that I thought that this was a very poor decision on the restaurants part for a few reasons.
A. They had really excellent fries
B. They serve god awful mashed potatoes with parsley flakes without offering any kind of gravy with them
C. They have never offered a baked potato
D. They already have at least one cooked vegetable nightly along with their escabeche, (or however it is spelled) cold vegetable medley offering.
Even the waiter admitted that since this went into effect last week that they have been getting a lot of complaints. Gee, you think? I plan on emailing the corporate HQ's about this today. You don't suppose Houston's will do this too? Nah, they wouldn't be that dumb.
