Brent's Deli -- on the decline?

Tusc | Jun 27, 2005 12:53 PM

A few days ago we did take out from Brent's, a place I've been fond of for many years.

Quite disappointing. The corned beef and pastrami were not very tasty (the pastrami was the leanest cut I've ever seen in my life, and leaner than most corned beefs).

The chopped liver tasted overly sweet, almost to the point where I wondered if the chef meant to put in salt, but grabbed the sugar by mistake. It was almost inedible.

The stuffed cabbage was just okay, but I've had better there. We chose not to go for the cabbage soup, figuring it would be too much of a hassle to shlep it home.

I'm wondering if maybe the dine-in experience is different than take-out there. Clearly this was not what I've come to expect from Brent's...

The last thing this town needs is another deli falling on hard times. I used to love Junior's, but their decline over the past few years has been well documented, ditto for Izzy's, Fromin's and Solly's. Zucky's is no more and Jerry's is well, a never was. Langer's is still good but it's not real close.

It may just be the changing demographics, the times, who knows. Clearly we did not have a good meal, and I only hope it was an abberation, maybe the main chef was off when we went...
