After years of hearing about it, the wife and I finally ventured into their new location last Friday. We had taken the day off, and figured we'd be able to beat the legendary line out the door. Surprisingly the place was still very crowded at 10:30 am.
I had the corned beef hash w/ eggs and home fries. The hash had a nice crust, and good beef flavor, but texturally this rendering was fairly unpleasant. Over processed to the point of mush with tiny cubes of potatos. I finished it, cause I was hungry. Home fries were underseasoned, with a very liberal amount of half cooked onion mixed throughout. Eggs were cooked to order, and the rye toast was fine.
The wife went with the nova eggs benedict and found the salmon salty to the point of overpowering the fish utterly. Otherwise a reasonable rendering of a benedict situation.
The Shoppe offers City Dock coffe, which was better than diner average. Wait staff were harried, but reasonably efficient.
Overall, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Maybe the big square plates? There is a definite lack of breakfast options in the area, so I guess that's part of the charm. Given the rather high prices and less than stellar food, I'll be more likely to end up at Bob Evans, or Dennys next time I'm looking for breakfast out.
