Breakfast in San Marcos - Market Street Cafe & Bakery

In the souless, area known as San Marcos Restaurant Row (20 chains ... count them, 20 chains), I decided to try Market Street Cafe.

They don't seem to be a chain, but have copied that slick look. There are stylish black and white check tables. The look fit very well into the area.

You order at the counter and the food is delivered to your table. Pleasant enough staff and pleasant enough food. Actually, they have some killer danish.

On one occasion I had an apricot and cheese danish, hot from the oven. The crisp buttery danish crackeled as I bit into it and the cheese and appricot oozed delicously into my mouth.

Breakfast was ok. I had the Mexican Omlet that has the ingrediants mixed into the egg frittata style. It was topped with four slices of avacado. I ordered the hash browns instead of home fries. Not a fan of hash browns. They were ok. Nice muffins accompany the meal. They are made in the adjoining kitchen that you can see into. A tad commercial tasting, but still tasty.

They restaurant bakes pies and breads. They do have that commercial supermarket look to them, but what I've had to date is decent enough.

A six out of ten on my breakfast scale. Really, skip the ihop in front of the restaurant. This place is much better.
