Breakfast, brunch, dim sum - SOMA, Financial Dist.

Hi, I'm new to the Bay Area Board. I live in Phoenix, AZ, but travel to San Francisco several times a year. I stay near Howard/New Montgomery and I'm looking for a fabulous breakfast, brunch or dim sum place within walking distance. I've had decent run-of-the-mill breakfasts all around here like egg sandwiches, bagels, oatmeal, pastries, etc., but I want WOW. Kind of along the lines of Bouchon in the Venetian, but doesn't have to be that fancy.
I have tried XYZ restaurant in the W Hotel and Yank Sing; both were good, but I would like more suggestions, please. Oh, and if anyone can tell me how difficult it is to get into Farmer Brown for Sunday brunch (are they still doing that? is it good?) and give any tips on best times to avoid rush, that would be great. Thanks!
