Bouwer's

I hadn't been to Fremont in a bit, but I made a special trip yesterday to check out Bouwer's -- a new tap room/restaurant with a Belgian theme (lotsa belgian beer; they call fries "frites").

Anyway, it's a real handsome space -- a bit industrial, but not the gleaming cold stainless industrial. this a a warm n' fuzzy industrial.

they have more than 50 beers on tap and tons from the bottle. I had a coupla IPAs and thee redhead had a pilsner. all thee beers were great.

the food came. i had beer soaked brat with grilled onions and kraut. was OK. Brat was overdone, bun too large and not enough grilled onions, but whatever... i will say that the frites were the best g.d. french fries i'd ever had. i mean -- these fries were amazing. cripy oon the outside, sweet and tender inside. normally, i wouldn't rave aboout fries, but since these were so good (and since they were called frites) i'll give them my highest possibe recommendation.

thee redhead had the lambeek salad (a rather pedestrian goat cheese/walnut/greens thing) and a cuppa soup. She reports both being OK.
