Lunch. Business lunch. Boulevard. This was my first time there. Service - top notch, a great place to discuss what needed discussing, in a non-hurried atmosphere. The food -
Starter - Butter lettuce salad with green goddess, some bacon bits and tomato. Either my taste buds were dull, or something was missing. It was perfectly ok, but should have been better.
Entree - Pork tenderloin. Very good. Not more than very good, but very good. Done just right.
Dessert - a berry tart of sorts. It was very good. While some of the other selections sounded better, I wanted something not so rich. It hit the spot.
Wine - My eye was hovering around the cab franc (by the glass) and the waitress actually recommended it after she saw my reaction to her pinot suggestions. It was very good and a perfect complement to the meal, and one of the better cab francs I've had.
All in all, a solid decent meal, probably not worth the price for my particular meal's taste, but the quality and service counted for a lot. And then, off to dinner...
Taxi Brousse - this mystery down the street, with rworange's review in the window, open and ready to go, with a fair crowd already inside. The owner is eager to please and comes around to every table, wondering how you found out about the place, and wants to talk. The food:
Appetizer - Pastelles - something like small fried empanadas. Not my thing, but my dining companion loved them and made all gone.
Main course - Marinated Lamb with plantains, rice and salad. The plantians - good enough, but the appetizer plates of same looked better. The rice - odd mushy texture. The lamb - a butter knife didn't cut it. (I forgot to tell him before leaving YOU REALLY NEED STEAK KNIVES.) The taste was good, the texture was pretty tough. The price was right. The service was friendly and fun. I'll go back to try more, if for no reason than it isn't thai and it isn't indian, and I can be there in under 5 minutes.
Oddly, I may have enjoyed my dinner better than my lunch, but you could never really compare the two.
