Just a quick review of our night at Blowfish on Saturday.
After we found the place (a feat unto itself) we were a little dumbfounded at the menu...and since no server arrived to explain it to our group (who arrived at various intervals) we never found out exactly what to order, or how. In fact, there was no explanation or attention of any sort given by the servers, no mention of specials, recommendations, nothing.
I ordered the butterfish and the seafood trio in a fois gras miso dressing. The butterfish was good, if a little warm and sinewy. It was passable. I was just grateful to find it on the menu. The seafood trio was accompanied by taro "nests". When I inquired how to eat it, the server informed me that I should scoop some of the seafood onto the nest and eat it that way. Well, that didn't work, the nest was way too big to eat gracefully. As there were no utensils given, I had to smash the nest up with my chopsticks until in suitable size pieces. The seafood was delicious but tiny, and I'm not sure what accompanying it with taro root intended to achieve exactly.
Among the other 8 diners, 2 had the duck (one was sent back), others had the handrolls and the asian salad (both reported as good).
We were informed that we were coming dangerously close to the end of our seating time (the other seating came in at 9.30pm) and so we had to rush our dessert platter, which was interesting. A green tea crepe was filled with an ice cream dessert, and had three coconut and vanilla ice creams on the side. There was also a chocolate brownie and an apple tarlet. All was good, but we could have done with a knife to cut the "share platter" into shareable portions. Appeals to catch the servers eyes went unnoticed.
In all, a disappointing night. We won't be back.
