After hearing raves from many for years, albeit with a lul in the raves after the departure of chef Vivas, I finally had a chance to try Bistro Ole. (suprised that there were no threads dedicated to the place here on Chowhound)
Overall we liked the food, but felt it all needed a bit of seasoning. I had heard from friends that the food renged from fukk flavored to downright spicy, but I felt that it was all a bit flat, not that any of it was bad, nothing could be further from the truth, it was all quite good, just could have used a little more seasoning. We ordered the Plaintains with Guacamole, Fried Calamari with Spicy Piri piri, and the Spicy Meatball starters. All needed salt, and the spicy items weren't spicy. Entrees included the Paella Valencia, Shirt Syeak with Spicy Chimichurri, and a T-Bone Steak topped with Garlic Shrimp. The Spicy Chimichurri was indeed spicy, however the steak was a little overcooked (as was the T-Bone) The flavor of the entrees was definately a step up on the appetizers, with the hit of the night being the Paella. The service was very good, as the staff really goes out of the way to make you feel comfortable. I will definately go back, if for nothing else but the Paella, Maybe on a slower night as the restaurant was quite busy on this Friday Nigyt.
