just writing about a nice evening I just had. I'm sure millions of other chowhounders have done this as well, but here goes.
For my husband's birthday, we started out at River Cafe for cocktails. Lovely, not crowded. My kir was perfect, and the apple martini was a bit sweet, but I can't complain.
Then we walked up the street to Grimaldi's for dinner.
I haven't read much lately about Grimaldi's pizza so I'll give a little report. We had a pie with sausage and muchrooms and were pleased on all fronts. The crust was thin, with just the right amount of chew vs. crisp. They went light on the sauce which was very fresh and tomato-y. Lots and lots of fresh basil - yum. My favorite had to be the sausage though. I don't know where they get it, but it's good. Tiny pieces of sausage crumbled over the top with lots of pepper and delicious fennel seeds. Really, the most lively sausage I've had on a pie in ages.
