Birthday dinner for 18

My dad's 90th! Chestnut Hill/Brookline/Newton/JP please. Where can we go that will give us a special night and great food plus be quiet enough (or private room) to hear everybody in my family talk at once, and at top volume as they will? We checked out Capital Grille (his choice, but I read bad notices here) and Metropolitan Club. Both will give a private room for $1500 min -- a lot of $ for the number who will come. Lumiere will give us a private corner, two tables, $55 prix fixe - includes dessert, which we were thinking of doing at home with a cake, so not a perfect choice. Italian and Chinese OK if upscale to fit the occasion. I hear Blue Ginger is spotty. Oh yeah, gonna be on a Sat. night, that's the date, though we will be happy to eat at 6.

Folks are flying in from California, Wyoming, etc. so Legal Seafood ain't it, but we don't want to make everyone drive and park in Boston, as they'll all be staying close to dad's in CH. We had his 80th at the just-about-to open Providence, alas, morphed to Chez Henri and gone to Cambridge. That was a great dinner.
