Berkeley - New Lucky House

This is a very nice, inexpensive Thai Restaurant on University near Shattuck. However, I was looking for Laotian food and the only Lao here was the husband. His wife, who was very nice said that Lao and Thai food was the same. No special request Lao dishes available.

Ordered the only item identified as Lao on the menu – beef laap. Unlike the three Lao laap dishes I had this week, this wasn’t as chopped. Tender thin slices of beef were tossed with scallions, red onions, cilantro and iceberg. It was mainly flavored with citrus and a hint of fish sauce. That fish sauce taste never hits me until after I leave the restaurant.

I’d actually go back here for the Thai as they had a few interesting items like pineapple curry. Sorry I didn’t get the BBQ taro that was a special on the dessert menu.

Menu and sign in resturant says almost any dish can be made vegetarian and visa versa.

It almost always gets positive mentions. Here are a few more detailed positive reviews on the board on Chowhound.
