Four of us at Beechwood the other night. The dining room is much smaller than the bar/lounge. Very pretty space. Seemed a little noisy despite the carpeting, but once the loudest offender chowed down and cleared out, it was tolerable.
Here is what we ate:
SMOKED SALMON AND CUCUMBER TERRINE
honey mustard vinaigrette and fried shallots
This was okay, nothing extraordinary.
WARM MARINATED BEETS
lardons, frisee and aged goat cheese
This got the biggest rave of the evening.
PUREE OF CAULIFLOWER SOUP
herb roasted cauliflower
This was the big letdown of the evening. Ann thought it more of a heavy sauce than a soup.
DUCK LEG CONFIT
roasted yams, wild onions, mizuna
This alse earned a rave.
PULLED BEEF SHORTRIB POT PIE
butternut squash puree, tuscan black kale
This was my choice, despite the warnings on Chowhound. I thought it was pretty good, if not spectacular. The sauce wasn't overly sweet; maybe a little salty. The puff pastry may indeed have been frozen at some point, but in my kitchen experience dough usually doesn't suffer from a spell in the freezer
GRILLED DRY AGED NEW YORK STEAK
mushroom-potato succotash, arugula salad, cabrales butter
Also earned a rave.
BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE PUDDING
vanilla brandy whipped cream
Ann found it a little grainier this time.
DEVILS FOOD CAKE
espresso gelato, baileys sauce
A good meal at a reasonable price, but I think we'll stick to the bar food.
