Restaurants & Bars 4

Beechwood -review

Went to Beechwood with neighbors a couple of weeks ago. The dining room had only been open 2 days. At first look, the menu had no prices. We were told to look very closely and the prices were printed in the same color ink as the paper color of the menu. Prices were reasonable, all apps. under $10 and entrees under $20 except a steak. Room and layout of the restaurant, bar, patio is completely different than Menemsha. It is contemporary with lots of stained wood paneling, glass and a center landscaped area to look out into. This is designed to be 3 separate restaurants. Patio dining, Bar dining (different menu than formal dining room), and Main Dining room. The staff was really learning. One busboy would deliver plates to the table and another would clear them before we could even touch them. It got to the point where we were loudly saying "NO" as he tried to clear our plates. They also couldn't find some of the wines (still in the boxes) that were on the well priced wine list. Mushroom app. was pretty good, Beet app. also good, mussel app. was good but fairly small (about 8 mussels). 2 of us got the Shortrib Pot Pie and 2 got the Duck Confit. Pot Pie was a hit but the Confit was quite dry...a miss. Sad to say, many of the bar menu items looked more interesting than the dining room menu. I asked if Brooke and husband were in the house but was told that they were not. It was a rainy night but the bar was packed. Dining room was less than half full. They are trying but not up to speed on our visit. Desserts were also just OK. The Chocolat Pudding tasted as if it were out of a box and the Apple Dessert was not memorable. Bill was just over $100.00 a couple including tax and tip. Sorry to say, there are lots of better options at these prices.
