Thanks to the hounds who recommended this Ottawa restaurant. It was excellent. The service was particularly impressive.
I started with a seared slab Foie Gras, served with a pistachio and grapefruit salad. I asked wy server to pair it with a nice wine; he did so splendidly, bringing a glass of HillyPilly Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc dessert wine, which was utterly beautiful: honeyed and sweet, with a good backbone of acidity. The pairing was that magical thing you get with a perfect pairing.
My main course was duck breast, atop spaetzle, wild mushrooms, paired with an Oregon Pinot Noir (2003 Argyle). The portion was generous and delicious. Beautiful.
Dessert was an espresso creme brulee with a 1991 Graham's Vintage Port.
Oh, what a night.
